ZAKAT

Traditionally, most scholars did not approve payment of fitrana in money. They restricted its payment to the food items the Prophet, on him be peace, mentioned, or to food staples common to the Muslims of the region in which it was being paid.

SADAQAH JARIYAH

Sadaqah Jariyah is a long-term kindness that accrues ongoing reward from Allah (SWT). When someone decides to build a well as an act of Sadaqah Jariyah, they are rewarded for the act. But they are also rewarded every time someone or something uses or drinks from the well.

The Al Aziz Islamic Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to providing the best possible service to humanity and specifically the vulnerable and orphans, as well as providing financial sustainability, Islamic education, clothes for the poor children, shelter, access to clean water and mosques, disaster relief, and other aspects of human life to those in need.

Sadaqah is given to the needy to receive a reward from Allah and not gain any respect or appreciation from people. Sharing knowledge, supporting schools, contributing to the construction of Mosques, digging a water well, establishing libraries for the public, providing assistance for travelers, serving your neighbors and relatives in need, supporting the needy, sponsoring orphans,financially helping the debtors, and any other means by which to do good to an individual or a community are types of Sadaqah.

Sadaqah Jariyah is a continuous charity contribution whose reward prevails long even after one passes away. For instance, if a person digs a water well in a village and the villagers benefit from it is a Sadaqah Jariyah. Someone establishing a school where children get an education is also a Sadaqah Jariyah because its effect will remain for generations.

Zakat is the third pillar of Islam and is a form of worship that involves wealth. However, it is obligatory upon Muslims to pay a portion of his earnings once in a lunar (Hijra) year to the poor and the needy when their earnings reach a prescribed amount (called Nisab” ) above their needs. Commanded to the Muslims in the second year of Hijra Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Qur’an:And establish regular Prayer and give Zakah, and bow down your heads with those who bowdown (in prayer).” (2:43)
